Bollywood Superstar Akshay Kumar has taken a daring step to revive theatres by releasing his film Bell Bottom on 19th August 2021 with 50% occupancy. Despite the film getting great reviews, the box office collection report of BB is very poor.
It has collected 2.50cr net all over India on Day 1, Thursday. On Friday also, it collected between 2.30-2.50cr. Bell Bottom has collected more than $30K at the US box office, which is not at all encouraging.
In India, Bollywood films earn a major share from Maharashtra. Sadly, theatres haven’t been opened there due to the Covid-19 second wave. In south India, except for Telugu states, the remaining states haven’t been allowed theatres.
Only in Telugu states, theatres are running at full capacity. The box office performance of Bell Bottom is an eye-opener to those who want to release their films in theatres, especially pan India films like RRR.
Maverick director Rajamouli’s RRR is slated for the grand release on 13th October 2021. Many trade analysts requested to postpone the release of RRR as most states haven’t been allowed theatres in India. And remaining have allowed 50% occupancy. It is a wise decision if the RRR team decides to postpone the release of the film as overseas and Indian markets are not encouraging.
It is almost confirmed that RRR will be released in 2022.
