Black Fungus cases on rise in Hyderabad: Report

Black Fungus cases are reportedly rising in Hyderabad due to the reckless use of steroids for treating Covid-19. Media reports are saying that doctors are increasingly encountering the cases this week.

A TNIE report says that, in Hyderabad, about 70 such cases have been reported with 6 deaths.

A lot of analysis has been done on the issue. In an interview with India Spend, pulmonologists Rajani Bhat and Lancelot Pinto said that the abuse of steroids may be driven by misunderstanding among doctors who have heard that steroids are wonder-drugs.

Experts are urging doctors not to prescribe steroids without considering the side effects. The plumonologists in the interview said that a lot of covid patients are exerting pressure on doctors to give them a quick fix because oxygen beds are not available aplenty in hospitals.
