Calcutta High Court directs a court-monitored CBI inquiry in West Bengal’ post-poll violence case

The Calcutta High court directed the court-monitored CBI investigation into the incidents of post-poll violence in West Bengal. It was known that TMC workers have attacked and vandalised the houses of opposition party supporters. During this heinous act, people were murdered and women were raped.

The Calcutta High court is also ordered to constitute a SIT with senior officials including a retired judge. Petitioner Priyanka Tibrewal said to the ANI that SIT will form with three retired IPS officers of West Bengal and a retired Supreme court judge.  She said that the apex court will monitor the CBI probe. CBI will investigate the severe crimes like rape and murder during the post-poll violence in West Bengal.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur who has welcomed the High Court’s decision has said that there is no place for violence in democracy.
