‘Jagame Thandhiram’ may have got a huge shot in the arm even though its producer has failed to secure a theatrical release. The OTT release has turned out to be a massive money-spinner if the figures revealed by LM Kaushik, an industry insider, are anything to go by.
The Dhanush-Karthik Subbaraj film, which will stream from 12:30 pm this Friday in 18 languages on Netflix, is said to have become richer by Rs 55 Cr just because of the deal with Netflix. The OTT giant is believed to have bought the straight streaming rights for the massive prize because it saw the potential of the film in Hindi and half a dozen foreign languages. Originally, the movie was made only for Telugu and Tamil audiences.
The producer made another Rs 7 Cr by selling the Hindi satellite and YouTube rights. By selling the Tamil satellite rights to Vijay TV, another Rs 10 Cr was made.
The initial budget of the gangster flick came to Rs 50 Cr. Since last year, interest on borrowed sums got accumulated to the tune of Rs 12 Cr due to the pandemic-induced delay in its release. Even after going through the inordinate delays, the producer made a profit, thanks to the stupendous Netflix deal.
