Dual streaming: Telugu viewers are loving it

The other day, when the titles of ‘Most Eligible Bachelor’ rolled, the audience were surprised to see that the streaming partners of the Akhil-Pooja Hegde movies are two in number: Netflix and Aha. This is on the lines of what we have seen in the case of Allu Arjun’s ‘Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo’, Ram Pothineni’s ‘RED’ and Nithiin’s ‘Bheeshma’ previously.

Last year, ‘Krishna And His Leela’ was released directly on Netflix first, followed by Aha. ‘Doctor’, the Sivakarthikeyan-starrer, is going to stream on Netflix and SunNXT. The film is a blockbuster in Tamil and several sections of audience are wishing to watch it with subtitles as and when the black comedy streams on the two platforms.

It’s advantage viewers when producers opt for dual streaming. Not everyone has a subscription to every single OTT platform. It’s a win-win for everyone. An OTT platform may not have the budget to buy out a film for exclusive streaming rights. So, it would be more than happy to share the rights with some other streaming platform. That way, the film producer, too, earns adequately or more than expected.
