ICMR wants scale up of Rapid Antigen Tests

While India has seen a rapid increase in cases in the second wave, it has not ramped up testing exponentially. The ICMR seeks to do just that.

On Thursday, the IMCR said that the national target is to do 25 lakh tests per day by the end of May. By the end of June, 45 lakh tests are to be conducted per day.

As quoted by ANI, the Council feels that more of Rapid Antigen Tests should be done because you can get results rapidly and then isolate the patient quickly.

The body is also in favour of self-testing. Earlier this week, ICMR approved a kit by the name of CoviSelf for the purpose of home testing. “Only nasal swab will be required for this rapid antigen testing,” it said.
