Dubbed Tamil mass-masala movies continue to have a weak buzz

There was a time when dubbed mass-masala movies dubbed from Tamil, if they featured notable stars, would have at least some buzz among the Telugu audience. It has been years since even well-known Kollywood actors have been failing to make the audience root for their movies.

Last week, ‘Laabam’ hit the cinemas simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil. Despite Vijay Sethupathi headlining it, the movie came a cropper. It had zero buzz and stood no chance in the face of ‘Seetimaarr’. Even if there was no ‘Seetimaarr’, the film wouldn’t have made much business, considering that Sethupathi’s performance received no major applause.

This week, on September 17, Vijay Antony’s ‘Vijay Raghavan’ is coming out. The film, which is about governance reforms following a commercial template, is set to lose out to ‘Gully Rowdy’ and the OTT release ‘Maestro’.
