The first day of the first Test match has been ended. Despite the early blow of losing Mayank Agarwal’s wicket, team India stood tall at the time of lunch, later Kiwis pacer Kyle Jamieson continued his consistent form by taking the wickets of Rahane and Gill. In the same session, Tim Southee dismissed Pujara too.
Kyle Jamieson put India on the back foot by dismissing both openers Mayank, Gill and the skipper Rahane. The debutant Shreyas Iyer along with Ravindra Jadeja played sensibly and put team India in a comfortable position at the end of Day 1’s play.
Both Iyer and Jadeja completed their fifties. For the fifth wicket, Iyer and Jadeja were made unbeaten century partnership. Their partnership for the 5th wicket is over 113 runs.
This is the third pair that scored 100 plus partnership against New Zealand for the fifth wicket after Ganguly and Dravid(2003), Laxman and Yuvraj(2009) and now Shreyas Iyer and Ravindra Jadeja(2021).
At the end of the day’s play, team India posted a total of 258/4 on Day 1. It is truly a great debut for Shreyas Iyer.
