Ivermectin can’t be used widely for Covid-19: WHO

At a time when Ivermectin has been hogging headlines in parts of the world, the World Health Organization today recommended against the general use of the widely-used (in India) drug anti-parasitic drug. A study recently found that its regular use will cut down the risk of COVID-19.

The WHO added that Ivermectin is to be used only as part of clinical trials. Only after the collection of enough evidence should it be used widely, it suggested.

In Goa, the Pramod Sawant government has allowed its use for Covid-19 patients. This has come in for sharp criticism from the Goa unit of the Congress Party, which demanded that the CM roll back the move.
