Jat voters are scaring BJP: Analysts

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently announced the repeal of the three Farm Laws, several political commentators are of the view that the Jat voters who dominate the political scene in western Uttar Pradesh have started giving nightmares to the BJP.

In 2017, the saffron party won 51 out of 71 Jat-dominated seats in the Assembly elections. This time, if the number comes down to 15 or even less, it will be a significant loss.

It’s said that Yogi Adityanath is currently focussing on more than 65 seats where the BJP didn’t win in 2017. He hopes that any losses in the Jat-dominated seats can be undone if his party wins in these seats.

Others, however, are of the view that Jats may have voted as a bloc in election after election but the threat is not great from them because the likes of Rakesh Tikait don’t have the charisma to swing votes.
