Kamal Kamaraju spent a year learning dance for ‘Natyam’

In 2008, when Kamal Kamaraju debuted as a male lead in ‘Avakai Biryani’, not many noticed him. He went on to do small roles in big-ticket movies such as ‘Jalsa’ and ‘Legend’. ‘Katamarayudu’, ‘Arjun Reddy’, ‘Maharshi’ and ‘Miss India’ are among the other movies in which he played side roles. In ‘Vakeel Saab’, this year, Kamal was seen as a character named Anwar.

‘Natyam’, which is all set to hit the cinemas on October 22, is one of the most important movies of his career. Kamal has played a full-fledged lead role in the movie. Since it’s a Bharatnatyam-based film, it was not an easy job.

Kamal is seen as Sandhya Raju’s senior in the movie. For the unversed, Sandhya Raju is a professional dancer and comes from the family of Ramalinga Raju of Satyam Computers. “When Kamal was chosen for the role, I was worried because he didn’t know classical dancing. So, we got him trained for a year so that the audience don’t troll us if he makes any gaffes,” Sandhya Raju said in her latest interview.

Directed by debutant Revanth Korukonda, ‘Natyam’ was recently watched by Ra Charan, who has since endorsed its theme and intentions.
