Kejriwal condemns IT raids on ‘Dainik Bhaskar’

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has strongly condemned the Income Tax department’s attack on the ‘Dainik Bhaskar’ media group and a Hindi news channel in Uttar Pradesh. He called these attempts were made to intimidate the media. The raids were carried out by IT officials in various cities on allegations of tax evasion.

In a tweet on Thursday, Kejriwal alleged that the Income Tax department’s attacks on Dainik Bhaskar and Bharat Samachar were an attempt to intimidate the media. He said these raids are a sign that anyone would talk against BJP will be targeted. Mr Kejriwal said such a tendency of thought is very dangerous and he wanted everyone to raise their voices unitedly.

He demanded that such attacks and intimidations be stopped immediately and that the media can be allowed to work freely. Along with Kejriwal, other opposition leaders have condemned the raids.

Rajasthan Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot responded that the attacks were an attempt to suppress the media. In a tweet, West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee accused attacking journalists, media houses as another vicious attempt to strangle democracy.
