Marking Rajiv Gandhi’s death anniversary on May 21, senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Salman Khurshid put out the pics of Rajiv and his son, Rahul Gandhi, and tweeted this in earnest: “The once and future king of democracy.” Least did he imagine that the tweet would be heavily trolled by Netizens.
Several Twitter users said that the term ‘King of democracy’ is an oxymoron, given that democracy is a system where kings and queens have no place. They reminded Khurshid that the attitude to project a dynast as a king is problematic.
Expectedly, the BJP joined them to call out the tweet. “Democracy doesn’t have “Kings” …Dynasties have Kings ..While Democracy has “Karyakartas” you all will always continue to be “Durbaris” of the Past Kings & Future Clown Princes.,” wrote Sambit Patra of the BJP.
A General Secretary of the BJP said, “Sir, your slavery doesn’t make him a king.” “In a democracy, there is no place for The King and Queen. Please come out of Feudalistic mentality Sir,” Aditya Trivedi wrote.
