Mehul Choksi, a fugitive Indian diamond trader, seems to have escaped from Antigua. He has been missing since Sunday. Lawyer Vijay Agarwal said local police were searching for Mr Choksi. The CBI is also working to confirm the news. Choksi is accused of embezzling Rs 13,500 crore from PNB along with his nephew Neerav Modi. The two fled abroad shortly after the scandal broke in 2017.
Since January 2018, he was in Antigua. In replying to the opposition in the parliament Prime Minister Gaston Browne said that they have approached Interpol and other International Police agencies to trace Mr Choksi. In the Antiguan Parliament hours, the opposition accused that Mr Choksi ran away to Cuba fearing imminent extradition to India, as per News 18.
According to the locals, this 62-year-old fugitive Indian business tycoon was seen driving on Sunday in the Jolly Harbour area around 5 PM.
