Post elections, Politics in West Bengal were heated up. Tensions were mounted up after CBI officials arrested a minister belonging to the ruling party, TMC. TMC activists along with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee are protesting in front of the CBI office. TMC activists have accused the BJP of not being able to digest the defeat, hence arresting and retaliating against its leaders. They are demanding the immediate release of Minister Firhad Hakeem and other leaders.
CBI officials have arrested West Bengal Minister Firhad Hakeem in connection with the Narada scam. At Present, Firhad Hakeem is the Minister of Transport in the Mamata Banerjee Cabinet. Along with Firhad, there are several other charges against leaders Madan Mitra, Subrata Mukherjee and Sowan Chatterjee in the case. In this context, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla allowed the trial of the then Trinamool Congress leader and today’s BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari.
