Swara Bhasker of ‘Veere Di Wedding’ fame has courted controversy on social media for backing a muted video that has since been called out for trying to fan communal fires. In the controversial video, a Muslim man is seen being thrashed by a bunch of men in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad. A fact-checker named Muhamad Zubair first claimed that the victim in the video was being forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’. The claim has been discredited and the UP government has even lodged an FIR against Zubair and eight others, including Twitter.
Netizens are demanding that an FIR be lodged against Swara Bhasker, too, since she has amplified the now-discredited video without verifying authenticity.
On her part, the actress has remained unapologetic. “Right Wing and Sanghis vomiting on my timeline because the Ghaziabad police have named three Muslims. Jackasses, the prime accused is literally a Pravesh Gujjar. The man is on camera forcing the old man to chant #JaiShriRam. Yes it is a desecration of my God and my religion and I am ashamed.. as should you be,” Swara wrote on Twitter.
