New theme in Tollywood: Inter-religious marraiges

After inter-caste love affairs, the theme of inter-religious affairs are slowly becoming a popular theme in Telugu cinema. Just in recent times, two popular movies have explored the idea.

In ‘Uppena’, Aasi (Vaisshnav Tej) is the son of a lower-caste Christian. He falls in love with an upper-caste Hindu girl (played by Krithi Shetty). In ‘Love Story’, too, Revanth (Naga Chaitanya) is a Dalit Christian who is in love with an upper-caste Hindu girl named Mounica (Sai Pallavi).

In this week’s ZEE5 release ‘Alanti Stiralu’, Yamini is a Brahmin girl who is in love with a Chrisitan boy named Yash.

The theme of inter-religious love affairs is here to stay.
