On Friday, media reports emerged claiming that Tata Sons has won the bid for Air India, which is on a disinvestment path. It was projected as a big move on the privatization front. But the official version, which was out hours after the media reports surfaced, made it clear that no approval has been made so far.
“Media reports indicating approval of financial bids by the Government of India in the Air India disinvestment case are incorrect. Media will be informed of the Government decision as and when it is taken,” the Secretary of DIPAM said.
It was even reported that a panel led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah would be finalizing the decision on the bid. It turns out that the government is yet to make a call on the bids it has received.
