People took divorce with spouses for me: Congress leader

Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar, who was a student leader at the famous JNU in Delhi, has said that he is happy that his supporters have backed him through thick and thin. When police cases were lodged against him after a “cultural event” at JNU in 2016, there were polarized debates between his supporters and critics on social media.

Recalling those days, Kumar, as quoted by ANI, said, “I want to thank the crores of people who fought with their friends in school WhatsApp groups when unfounded allegations were made against us. In support of our movement, they fought at diner tables and fell out with friends. It even led to divorces.”

Kumar was in the CPI before joining the Grand Old Party. He couldn’t get a ticket from the Lok Sabha seat of his choice in the run up to the 2019 polls in Bihar. It’s said that the RJD didn’t want Kumar to hog the limelight. Kumar contested from Begusarai in Bihar and lost to BJP’s Giriraj Singh.
