Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh meets his loyalists ahead of the CLP meeting

Ahead of the CLP meeting, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has met MLAs loyal to him at his official residence in Chandigarh. Punjab Congress in-charge Harish Rawat said in a tweet on Friday night that the party was scheduled to convene at 5 pm on Saturday at the request of most MLAs.

On the other hand, according to national media reports, it seems that the Congress leadership has ordered Captain Amarinder Singh to resign as Chief Minister before the meeting. However, it is learned that Captain Singh had spoken to the party president Sonia Gandhi and warned her that he would resign from the party as they were insulting him.

Mr Rawat said the AICC was directing the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee to make appropriate arrangements for holding the meeting and ordered all Congress MLAs to attend.  It was known that four ministers and about 20 Congress MLAs have rallied against Chief Minister Amarinder Singh last month.

The turmoil in Punjab Congress Committee has been continuing for the past few months, especially between factions of Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu and CM Amarinder Singh.

As ANI stated, Punjab ministers Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Charanjit S Channi, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Assembly Speaker Rana KP Singh and Congress observer for Punjab, Ajay Maken arrives at the party office.

A CLP meeting of the party has been called today.
