Samantha Akkineni finally opens up on controversial character

Samantha Akkineni’s Raji in ‘The Family Man 2’ has been dogged by controversies. ‘Shame on Samantha’ has trended on Twitter, with thousands of Tamilians demanding a ban on the Amazon Prime show.

After a prolonged silence, Sam has finally opened up on playing Raji, an LTTE-type extremist. Saying that enacting the role required sensitivity and balance, she added that the character required a balanced, nuanced, and sensitive approach. The ‘Majili’ actress had watched documentaries of the Sri Lankan civil war, in which thousands were massacred, before the shoot.

The videos made her feel aghast and shocked. What is more, Sam was taken aback by the fact that most of the videos didn’t have more than a few thousand views on YouTube.

Saying that the world looked the other way, Samantha argued that lakhs more lost their livelihoods and homes. “I want Raji’s story to be a much-needed reminder for us. If we fail to do so, countless more will be denied their identity, liberty, and their right to self-determination,” Sam wrote.
