It was known that a petition has been filed in the Supreme court seeking the central government to pay ex-gratia of four lakhs to the families of those who died due to the Covid-19. Today, this plea has come to the hearing.
On Wednesday, the apex court directed the central government to formulate guidelines within 6 weeks on the payment of ex-gratia to the families of Covid victims. It rejected the Centre’s plea that they couldn’t pay compensation as there was a heavy burden financially due to the Corona.
A three-judge bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan passed the aforesaid order. It also ordered the NDMA(National Disaster Management Authority) to determine within six weeks the amount to be paid to the families of the Covid victims.
The SC also directed the Center to facilitate guidelines for the issuance of death certificates in cases of death with Covid complications.
