The Serum Institute of India has said that it will be able to manufacture and supply 10 crore Covishield doses in June. In the month of May, it manufactured about 6.5 crore doses.
The statement confirms that the Indian vaccine maker is ramping up its manufacturing capacity in a big way. As per a columnist, “June would be two months ahead of their current plan to get there by August.” This sort of ramping up is key to the Indian vaccination program.
Of late, the pace of vaccination is picking up in India. In the last week of this month, the daily vaccination rate has seen a very good improvement, with two days seeing 3 million vaccinations per day.
Compared to the month of April, the pace declined in May due to shortages. By August, shortages are expected to reduce drastically.
