Shreyas Iyer scores fifty on his Test debut

What a debut by Shreyas Iyer? He scored a fifty on his Test debut against New Zealand. He completed 50 runs from 94 balls including 6 fours.

Iyer came into the bat when the team lost quick wickets. After losing the first wicket, with his fifty Shubman Gill put team India at a good position before the lunch, India at 82/1.

At the time of tea break, India lost four wickets for 154 runs. Later, Iyer started building a partnership with Ravindra Jadeja. And the duo has been successful to a certain extent. In the meantime, Shreyas Iyer completed half a century.

With 54(102), Iyer is at the crease with Ravindra Jadeja 29(62), team India’s total is 215/4 in 72 overs with a run rate of just less than three runs per over.

Over Shreyas Iyer’s Test debut, his father spoke to Mid-Day, “I’ve Shreyas’ DP on WhatsApp of him holding the BG Trophy in 2017. I haven’t changed the DP since then because I always wanted to remind him that playing Test cricket should be his ultimate goal. I’m thrilled it’s finally happening”.
