Tollywood’s obsession with remakes: Count stands at seven

Telugu cinema has seen more than half a dozen remakes just this year. This in a year where a lot of movies haven’t hit the cinemas due to the pandemic. There were no movies in theatres for three months completely this Summer.

It all began with ‘RED’, starring Ram Pothineni and directed by Kishore Tirumala. Then came movies such as Sumanth’s ‘Kapatadhaari’, Sundeep Kishan’s ‘A1 Express’ before Summer.

Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Vakeel Saab’ is the biggest remake of the year. Recently, we have seen ‘Thimmarusu’ and ‘ISHQ’, followed by ‘Maestro’ on OTT.
To be sure, Ravi Teja’s ‘Krack’ had borrowed plot points from a Tamil movie.
