Trouble mounts for ‘The Family Man 2’ ahead of release

After Rajya Sabha MP Vaiko, the Tamil Nadu government has sought a ban on ‘The Family Man 2’, which will be streamed on Amazon Prime from June 4. Trouble is clearly mounting for the espionage thriller, in which Samantha Akkineni has played an LTTE terrorist.

A letter written to I&B Minister by the TN government says that the web series portrays the Eelam Tamils in a highly objectionable manner. The series, claims the letter, aims at distorting and discrediting the historical struggle of the Eelam Tamils.

“The sacrifices of their long-drawn-out democratic battle have been intentionally undermined,” the letter says. The letter adds that casting a Tamil-speaking actress in the role of a terrorist is a direct attack on the Tamil pride.

‘The Family Man 2’ has been accused of hurting the sentiments of both Eelam Tamils and the people of Tamil Nadu. The Centre is yet to respond to the demands.

Starring Manoj Bajpayee in the lead, the series is partly set in Chennai.
