On Friday, Union IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad’s personal account was suspended by Twitter for an hour. Twitter banned his account under copyright infringement. The account was restored almost an hour later.
The Union Minister tweeted this after his account was restored. Here is what the IT Minister tweeted, “Friends! Something highly peculiar happened today. Twitter denied access to my account for almost an hour on the alleged ground that there was a violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of the USA and subsequently they allowed me to access the account.”
The minister condemned Twitter’s action, saying it was a complete violation of Information Technology (Intermediate Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) regulations and Rule 4 (8) of 2021. He said Twitter failed to give notice before denying access to the personal account. However, it was not immediately clear which posts were deleted by Twitter under the DMCA.
The Union Minister reiterated that Twitter should adhere to the new IT rules and there was no compromise.
