Union Health Ministry pleas State governments to make Black Fungus a notifiable disease

On one end, India is battling with Corona and on the other hand, the Black fungus is terrorising Indian states with its spread. The Black Fungus cases have been slowly registering a rise in number from all over the states.

Over this, the Union Ministry has urged all the state governments in the country to make Mucormycosis(Black Fungus) a notifiable disease under the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897.  It also ordered all government, private health facilities, medical colleges to follow the guidelines issued by MoHFW and ICMR for screening, diagnosis and management of mucormycosis.

Before the Central government’s plea, a few days before Haryana Minister Anil Vij had stated as mucormycosis is a notifiable disease and ordered the officials to keep track of the cases and maintain the record.

As per the latest updates, Telangana and Tamil Nadu make Black Fungus a notifiable disease.
