UP: Political parties vie to take credit for ‘Expressways revolution’

Uttar Pradesh is said to be witnessing a revolution in terms of the construction of Expressways. As per a Times Of India report this week, the State is all set to have the most number of expressways in 2-3 years. This has been made possible by the Yogi Adityanath government’s push to infrastructure, reports have said.

The BJP is taking credit for making UP the Expressways capital of India. “Be it the fact that UP today has a GDP of over Rs 18 lakh cr, be it the Purvanchal or Bundelkhand or Yamuna expressways or in most of the expressways, primary work has been done by Modi-Yogi double-engine sarkar’,” BJP spokesperson Sanju Varma recently said, appearing on Times Now.

On the other hand, SP and BSP are claiming that most of these expressways were conceived during their period. “The Expressways in UP, Jevar International Airport and the Metro rail of Lucknow were all conceptualized by the BSP government. The Agra expressway was made as per the highest standards to set an example. Successive regimes of BJP/SP are trying to take the credit,” Sudhindra Bhadoria, a spokesperson of the BSP, said recently on NDTV.

A recent report by The Print observed that the 340-km Purvanchal, 296-km Bundelkhand, 91-km Gorakhpur Link and the 594-km Ganga expressways are scripting a silent transformation in UP.
