We have controlled covid with no lockdown: Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said that the daily covid caseload has come down to half in her State. The TMC chief claimed that her government has been able to reduce the daily caseload without imposing a lockdown.
“Unlike other States, we have only enforced certain restrictions,” Banerjee said, adding that the people are supportive of the government’s measures.

However, a Times Of India report said earlier this month that lockdown was in force in Bengal for weeks. “Curbs on retail had been enforced on May 16 to stem the surge in Covid cases across the State. Only grocery stores and daily essential markets were allowed to operate from 7am to 10am,” the report said.

As for vaccination, 1.4 crore vaccines have been given free of cost by the government, Banerjee said.
