Tollywood producer C Kalyan today told Andhra Pradesh Minister Perni Nani that the producers in the film industry claim high box-office collections to hoodwink the audience into believing that a film is too good to be missed.
“If we fake BO collections and say that we have earned Rs 200 Cr or Rs 500 Cr, it is only meant to fool the audience. Those are not true collections. Yes, some films do collect those high figures for sure,” Kalyan said.
He gave the example of ‘Jathi Ratnalu’, which was released in March this year and collected five times its cost.
Kalyan’s open claim must come as an embarrassment. What was an open secret has now been confirmed to be a norm in Tollywood.
